Business
Enbridge Inc. is a leading North American energy infrastructure company that owns and operates the world's longest crude oil and liquids pipeline system, spanning approximately 18,085 miles, alongside extensive natural gas transmission, distribution, storage, and renewable power generation assets. The company transports roughly three million barrels per day of crude oil and liquids through its Mainline system and other pipelines connecting Western Canadian supply basins to U.S. refineries and export terminals, including the Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center, the largest crude oil export facility by volume in the United States; it operates natural gas pipelines totaling over 23,850 miles across Canada, 30 U.S. states, and the Gulf of Mexico, delivering about 16.2 billion cubic feet per day to population centers, LNG facilities, and markets in Mexico; Enbridge Gas provides distribution services as North America's largest natural gas utility to nearly seven million customers following its 2023-2024 acquisitions of three U.S. utilities from Dominion Energy—East Ohio Gas, Questar Gas, and Public Service Company of North Carolina—for $14 billion; renewable power generation includes 38 wind, solar, geothermal, waste heat recovery, and transmission projects capable of powering about 1.9 million homes, with significant offshore wind investments in Europe such as Fécamp, Saint-Nazaire, and Hohe See; additional services encompass midstream gathering and processing, energy marketing, logistics, and emerging low-carbon solutions like clean hydrogen, renewable natural gas, and carbon capture and storage. Founded in 1949 as Interprovincial Pipe Line Company and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Enbridge conducts operations primarily across Canada and the United States, with extensions into Mexico and select international renewable assets. Recent developments include reaching final investment decision in November 2025 on the $1.4 billion Mainline Optimization Phase 1 project to add 150,000 barrels per day of capacity to its Mainline system and 100,000 barrels per day to the Flanagan South Pipeline by 2027; expansions of U.S. Gulf Coast natural gas storage at Tres Palacios and other facilities to reach 121 billion cubic feet total capacity amid rising demand from industry and data centers; advancements on the Southeast Supply Header Pipeline with binding utility commitments; updates to the Woodfibre LNG project with Enbridge's share of capital costs at $2.9 billion supported by 15-year offtake agreements; acquisitions of interests in the Whistler pipeline joint venture and Delaware Basin Residue Pipeline in 2024; and completion of financing for the U.S. utilities deal through equity issuances, hybrid notes, and asset sales including its stake in Alliance Pipeline.
