Business
US Ecology, Inc. (ECOL) provides environmental services to commercial and government entities, specializing in the treatment, recycling, disposal, and management of hazardous, non-hazardous, radioactive, and specialty waste streams including PFAS, PCBs, NORM, inorganic metals, and industrial waste. The company offers a comprehensive suite of solutions through its Waste Solutions segment encompassing treatment, storage, disposal facilities (TSDFs), beneficial reuse, wastewater treatment, and recycling at company-owned sites; Field Services including logistics such as specialty waste packaging, lab packs, collection, transportation, total waste management, vacuum services, tank and equipment rental, industrial cleaning, maintenance, remediation, and emergency response like oil spill cleanup and standby compliance; and Energy Waste management for upstream oil and gas operations in regions such as the Eagle Ford, Permian Basin, North Dakota, and Wyoming. US Ecology operates a nationwide network of nine specialty waste landfills (including five hazardous waste landfills), 16 RCRA-permitted TSDFs, seven wastewater treatment facilities, over 80 field locations, and 10-day transfer stations, serving industries like oil refineries, chemical plants, steel mills, energy, marine, rail transportation, and waste brokers. Founded in 1952 and headquartered in Boise, Idaho, the company maintains operations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In recent major developments, US Ecology completed a merger with NRC Group Holdings Corp. in November 2019, forming a new holding company that retained the US Ecology name and ticker ECOL while expanding capabilities in environmental, compliance, and industrial services; the company was acquired by Republic Services, Inc. in May 2022 for $2.2 billion, delisting its shares from Nasdaq and integrating into Republic's environmental solutions platform as a subsidiary, which enhances vertical integration, cross-selling opportunities, and tuck-in acquisition potential while adding difficult-to-replicate assets.
