- Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC) is an Egyptian joint-stock company engaged in the petroleum refining, petrochemical manufacturing, and specialty hydrocarbon processing sectors. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Alexandria, Egypt, the company operates two integrated refining and manufacturing facilities situated in the El-Max industrial district: the Gas Oil Maximization Complex and the Lube Oil and Wax Complex. AMOC produces, refines, and distributes an extensive portfolio of petroleum derivatives and specialty chemical products for industrial, commercial, and automotive applications. Its core product and service offerings comprise refined fuels, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), virgin naphtha, gas oil (diesel), and heavy fuel oil; specialty mineral oils and lubricants, including light and heavy neutral base oils, electrical insulating transformer oils, automatic transmission fluids (ATF), hydraulic fluids, turbine oils, and process oils; and wax products, including fully refined paraffin wax, semi-refined paraffin wax, slack wax, and specialized wax blends utilized in packaging, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, rubber compounding, and candle manufacturing. The company also produces aromatic extracts, petroleum resins, and elemental sulfur as secondary refined byproducts.
AMOC operates primarily within the Arab Republic of Egypt, supplying state distribution networks, domestic industrial manufacturers, maritime operators, and power utilities, while exporting specialized waxes, lube base oils, and fuel surpluses to international markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The company is publicly traded on the Egyptian Exchange under the ticker AMOC and maintains key shareholding relationships with state-affiliated entities, including the Alexandria Petroleum Company and Al Ahly Capital Holding.
In recent operational and strategic developments, AMOC has executed several modernization and capital expansion initiatives to upgrade product specifications and optimize processing efficiencies. The company established an operational processing agreement with the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) to upgrade output quality to international Euro-compliance standards, aiming to deliver an additional 350,000 metric tons of high-grade diesel to the domestic market. AMOC has integrated a catalytic hydrogenation unit to advance its production capabilities into higher-tier Group II base oils, broadening its reach in the high-performance lubricants segment. To support increased throughput and logistics flexibility, the company completed the construction of four dedicated storage tanks with an aggregate capacity of 10,000 cubic meters for finished oils, raffinates, and aromatic extracts. Additionally, AMOC commissioned a USD 2 million industrial wastewater treatment facility targeting phenolic contaminants to enhance environmental compliance, while advancing strategic initiatives to establish its facilities as a regional Mediterranean hub for wax aggregation, refining, and export.
