Business
Global Telecom Holding S.A.E., formerly known as Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E., is an international telecommunications holding company headquartered in Cairo, Egypt. Founded in 1998, the company operates as a key subsidiary of VEON Ltd. and provides mobile telecommunications, digital lifestyle, broadband, and financial technology services to consumer, business, and public sector clients across emerging markets, historically anchoring major operations in South Asia and North Africa through operating subsidiaries including Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (operating under the Jazz brand), Banglalink Digital Communications Limited (Banglalink) in Bangladesh, and Omnium Telecom Algérie S.P.A. (Djezzy) in Algeria. The company offers a comprehensive range of telecommunications, enterprise, and digital solutions structured across several core business segments: mobile voice and messaging services, including prepaid and postpaid cellular plans, national and international voice calling, international roaming agreements, short message services (SMS), and multimedia messaging; mobile data and broadband connectivity, comprising high-speed 3G, 4G/LTE mobile networks, fixed-wireless broadband, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure; digital financial services and mobile fintech, anchored by the JazzCash digital ecosystem, which provides digital mobile wallets, peer-to-peer fund transfers, online bill payments, merchant point-of-sale solutions, payroll management, micro-insurance, and digital micro-credit facilities; enterprise and business-to-business (B2B) ICT solutions, encompassing dedicated corporate internet, Internet Protocol Virtual Private Networks (IP-VPN), cloud hosting, managed data center facilities, cybersecurity services, machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, and Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring; and digital lifestyle and media platforms, including video and audio streaming applications, digital sports and gaming portals, health and education digital tools, and self-care customer service applications. In recent developments, Global Telecom Holding S.A.E. underwent significant corporate, operational, and capital restructuring led by its parent company, VEON Ltd. Following a successful mandatory tender offer by VEON to acquire all outstanding minority shares and the completion of a comprehensive tax settlement agreement with Egyptian authorities, the company formally delisted its shares from the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) to streamline the group's holding architecture. As part of this reorganization, operating assets and capital management for flagship units Jazz and Banglalink were integrated directly into VEON's group-wide digital operator strategy, driving substantial 4G network densification, sub-license acquisitions, and cloud migration partnerships with global technology providers. Furthermore, the group executed strategic portfolio optimizations, including the divestment of its operating equity stake in Algerian operator Djezzy to Algeria's National Investment Fund (Fonds National d'Investissement), while accelerating capital expenditure into digital super-apps, fintech expansion, and enterprise digital transformation across its continuing South Asian core operations.
