- Iron and Steel for Mines and Quarries (EGX: ISMQ) is an Egyptian mining and natural resources company engaged in the extraction, processing, commercial exploitation, and distribution of iron ore and industrial mineral aggregates. Formed as an independent joint-stock entity in 2021 following the spin-off and demerger of the mining operations of the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company (Hadisolb, originally established in 1954), the company operates as an affiliate of the state-owned Metallurgical Industries Holding Company under the Ministry of Public Business Sector. Headquartered in Giza, Egypt, the company centers its primary mining activities in the Bahariya Oasis within the Western Desert, while managing secondary quarry concessions and extraction sites across Minya, Suez, and Aswan.
The company's primary operations and product offerings comprise high-grade, medium-grade, and low-grade iron ore in lump, fines, and sinter feed grades tailored for blast furnaces and metallurgical applications; industrial limestone utilized as a fluxing agent in steel manufacturing, lime production, and building materials; high-magnesium dolomite for refractories and agricultural conditioning; barite utilized in industrial and drilling operations; and assorted crushed stone and quarry aggregates supplied to cement producers and infrastructure developers. In addition to raw material extraction, the company provides mineral processing services, including mechanical crushing, size screening, and classification; commercial quarry leasing and concession management; weighbridge and materials logistics handling; and laboratory analysis and technical testing for mineral purity enhancement.
Iron and Steel for Mines and Quarries primarily supplies industrial manufacturers across Egypt, including domestic steelmakers, cement factories, and chemical manufacturing facilities, alongside commercial sales directed to regional export markets.
In recent operational and strategic developments, the company has focused on modernizing its production capacity, upgrading resource valuation, and executing capital improvement programs. The company is advancing iron ore beneficiation and dry magnetic separation initiatives aimed at raising iron concentration percentages and reducing impurities across its Bahariya Oasis reserves to meet the technical specifications of modern direct reduction steel plants. To enhance operational efficiency, the company has deployed self-financed investment budgets, including a capital expenditure allocation of 157.6 million Egyptian pounds for the 2026/2027 fiscal period, dedicated to heavy mining machinery replacement, equipment overhauls, and transport fleet renewal. Furthermore, the company has implemented digital enterprise modernization through the deployment of SAP ERP systems across its finance, inventory, and supply chain operations, and concluded a comprehensive asset settlement agreement with the Egyptian Chemical Industries (KIMA), securing the transfer and legal registration of 45,000 square meters of industrial land in Aswan.
