Business
Sinai Manganese Company S.A.E. is an Egypt-based industrial mining and metallurgical enterprise engaged in the exploration, extraction, beneficiation, and manufacturing of manganese ores, ferroalloys, and non-metallic industrial minerals. Founded in 1957 and headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, with primary production assets and mining operations centered in Abu Zenima in the South Sinai Governorate, the company operates as an affiliate of the state-owned Metallurgical Industries Holding Company under the Ministry of Public Business Sector. Sinai Manganese Company operates integrated mining, smelting, mineral processing, and maritime logistics facilities. The company manufactures and distributes a comprehensive portfolio of products, including ferroalloys, consisting of high-carbon ferromanganese and silicomanganese utilized as essential alloying and deoxidizing agents in the iron and steel manufacturing industries; manganese ores, comprising metallurgical-grade lump ore, chemical-grade ore, and ground manganese powder for industrial, chemical, and dry-cell battery applications; kaolin minerals, including raw, washed, and calcined kaolin utilized in the manufacturing of ceramics, refractories, sanitary ware, paper, paints, and rubber; gypsum products, encompassing raw gypsum rock, calcined architectural plaster, and agricultural-grade gypsum soil conditioners; and silica resources, consisting of high-purity glass sand, foundry sand, and quartz for glass production, metallurgy, and construction applications. In addition to material production, the company operates a specialized proprietary deepwater seaport on the Gulf of Suez at Abu Zenima, offering commercial stevedoring, bulk handling, storage, and maritime export services for its own mineral shipments and third-party industrial operators. The company supplies industrial clients across Egypt and exports to international markets in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In recent operational developments, Sinai Manganese Company has embarked on a comprehensive restructuring and modernization program backed by the Egyptian government to maximize value-added downstream mineral processing. Key strategic initiatives include the technological overhaul and operational restart of its ferromanganese smelting furnaces at Abu Zenima to enhance energy efficiency and expand alloy output capacity; the execution of partnership agreements with domestic and international private-sector industrial firms to develop a new state-of-the-art calcined kaolin processing plant aimed at eliminating raw material exports in favor of high-grade industrial derivatives; and infrastructure expansion projects to upgrade the Abu Zenima maritime port facilities to increase dry bulk handling capacity and support regional trade logistics.
