- EMQQ The Emerging Markets Internet ETF (NYSE Arca: EMQQ) is an exchange-traded fund that tracks the EMQQ The Emerging Markets Internet Index, providing investors with exposure to publicly traded internet and ecommerce companies operating primarily in emerging and frontier markets across Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities comprising the index or depositary receipts representing such securities; eligible companies derive a majority of their revenues or assets from internet-related activities, including internet services, ecommerce platforms, online retail, digital payments, online advertising, gaming, media, search engines, social networks, and online travel. Top holdings typically include leading firms such as Reliance Industries, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Tencent Holdings Ltd., PDD Holdings Inc., Sea Ltd., MercadoLibre Inc., Nu Holdings Ltd., Bajaj Finance Ltd., Coupang Inc., and Meituan; the portfolio features approximately 60-65 constituents with modified market-cap weighting, individual position caps at 8%, and semi-annual rebalancing in June and December.
Launched on November 12, 2014, and domiciled in the United States as part of the Exchange Traded Concepts Trust, EMQQ is advised by Exchange Traded Concepts LLC (ETC), based in Oklahoma City, with index and research support from San Francisco-based EMQQ Global Advisors LLC, founded by Chief Investment Officer Kevin T. Carter. The fund targets institutional and retail investors seeking growth from the digital consumer revolution driven by smartphone penetration and online consumption in markets housing 85% of the world's population and 90% of individuals under age 30; geographic exposure emphasizes China (approximately 46%), India (36%), South Korea, Singapore, Argentina, Brazil, and others.
In recent developments, effective April 7, 2025, ETC assumed direct portfolio management responsibilities previously sub-advised to Penserra Capital Management, appointing Andrew Serowik, Gabriel Tan, Todd Alberico, and Brian Cooper as portfolio managers since March 2025. Prior to May 30, 2024, the underlying index was renamed from EMQQ The Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce Index and updated to raise the minimum market-cap threshold while imposing caps on China and South Korea exposures; the fund name concurrently shifted from EMQQ The Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce ETF to its current form on July 16, 2024. The ETF maintains an expense ratio of 0.86%, annual distributions, and assets under management around $393 million as of late 2025.
