American Century Sustainable Equity ETF (ESGA) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks total returns exceeding its benchmark over a market cycle through a core U.S. large-cap equity strategy integrating sustainable factors. The ETF, issued by American Century Investments, primarily invests in large capitalization U.S. companies selected via a proprietary multi-factor model combining fundamental financial metrics—such as price-to-earnings ratios, price-to-cash flow, earnings growth rates, cash flow growth, earnings estimate changes, and price momentum—with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scores derived from third-party data and proprietary evaluations; it screens out issuers raising ESG concerns across multiple metrics while focusing on those demonstrating sustainable business improvement. Holdings are concentrated in sectors including electronic technology, technology services, finance, health technology, and retail trade, with primary exposure to North American companies, predominantly in the United States. Launched in July 2020 and listed on NYSE Arca, the ETF employs a non-transparent structure utilizing a daily proxy portfolio to reflect the actual portfolio's economic exposures and risk characteristics, distinguishing it from traditional transparent ETFs. American Century Investments, founded in 1958 and headquartered at 4500 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri, manages the fund as part of its lineup of active ETFs emphasizing long-term investment results; the firm oversees approximately $51.5 billion in ETF assets as of August 2024 and serves financial professionals, institutions, corporations, and individual investors globally through offices in the U.S., London, Hong Kong, and Sydney. In a significant recent development effective December 10, 2024, the fund was renamed American Century Large Cap Equity ETF with a new ticker symbol ACLC, alongside a corresponding mutual fund name change from Sustainable Equity, reflecting a strategic rebranding to broaden appeal while retaining the core investment approach that incorporates ESG considerations without making them the sole focus. This change occurred amid American Century's ongoing ETF lineup adjustments, including the liquidation of other funds such as the Emerging Markets Bond ETF in October 2024 and Quality Preferred ETF in September 2025, aimed at optimizing portfolio offerings for investors. No major acquisitions, partnerships, or new product launches specific to ESGA/ACLC were reported in the last 1-2 years, though the firm continues to emphasize active management and sustainability integration across its equity strategies targeting institutional and retail clients.
