Business
Energy Transfer LP is a Dallas, Texas-headquartered company engaged in pipeline transportation, storage, and terminaling of natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGLs), refined products, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) primarily within the United States. Founded in 1996, the company operates one of the largest midstream energy infrastructure portfolios in the U.S., including over 125,000 miles of pipelines with assets spanning intrastate and interstate natural gas transportation and storage, NGL and refined products transportation, and crude oil transportation and services. Its operations also include natural gas gathering pipelines, processing plants, natural gas compression, wholesale power trading, and carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide removal, serving industrial end-users, utilities, and other pipelines. Energy Transfer owns controlling interests and subsidiaries including Sunoco LP, 100% ownership of Sunoco Logistics Partners Operations L.P., and Lake Charles LNG, an LNG import terminal and regasification facility. Recent major company developments include a strategic focus on expanding its natural gas infrastructure to meet rising electricity demand, particularly from data centers and AI-related infrastructure, highlighted by agreements to supply approximately 900 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to multiple U.S. data centers including those operated by Oracle. The company is advancing a substantial growth capital program with approximately $4.6 billion planned for 2025, targeting investments in midstream, NGL and refined products, and intrastate natural gas transportation segments. Key projects under development include the 516-mile Desert Southwest - Transwestern Pipeline Expansion valued at $5.3 billion with long-term contracts secured, and the Hugh Brinson Pipeline project, expected to be highly profitable. Energy Transfer is also advancing environmental initiatives such as natural gas-fired electric generation facilities, solar contract deployments, and carbon capture utilization and sequestration projects projected to reduce emissions by approximately 822,000 tons of CO2 in 2024. Additionally, the company recently approved construction of its ninth fractionator at Mont Belvieu with a capacity of 165,000 barrels per day to support NGL processing growth. Energy Transfer's comprehensive asset base supports its leading role in the U.S. energy midstream sector with integrated service offerings across the entire energy value chain from production to end-user delivery. The company maintains a growing emphasis on sustainable energy infrastructure development while maintaining strong financial discipline and expanding partnerships to enhance its national footprint and service capabilities across the U.S. market. This description reflects Energy Transfer LP's detailed core products and services alongside its recent strategic and operational changes as of late 2025.
