Invesco MSCI Emerging Markets Equal Country Weight ETF (EWEM) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance, before fees and expenses, of the MSCI Emerging Markets Equal Country Weighted Index. The fund invests in public equity securities of companies domiciled in emerging market countries, including Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and United Arab Emirates, with equal weighting across countries rather than traditional market capitalization weighting; it employs a representative sampling technique to replicate the index across growth and value stocks in diversified sectors and market capitalizations. EWEM, issued by Invesco Capital Management LLC as part of Invesco Exchange-Traded Fund Trust II and traded on NYSE Arca, targets institutional and retail investors seeking diversified exposure to emerging markets equities. Launched on November 29, 2010 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia through its sponsor Invesco Ltd., the ETF operated with a focus on global emerging regions until its closure. In a major strategic rationalization of its ETF lineup, Invesco announced the liquidation of EWEM and numerous underperforming funds in December 2019 due to economic viability concerns, with trading ceasing on February 14, 2020, after which the fund was delisted and liquidated. This action aligned with broader industry trends of ETF closures outnumbering launches in early 2020 and Invesco's ongoing portfolio optimizations, including subsequent ETF changes in 2023 but no revival or reissuance of EWEM. The ETF previously featured sector allocations reflecting the index's geographic and market cap spreads, with volatility metrics including a beta of 0.75 relative to peers.
