Business
The Finish Line, Inc. (FINL) is a specialty retailer of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories for men, women and kids, offering products from leading brands including Nike, Jordan, adidas, Under Armour and Puma; sandals, boots, socks, shirts, shorts, pants, jackets, hats, gloves, bags, sunglasses and shoe care items; and athletic shoes through branded departments in over 450 Macy's stores. Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, the company operates approximately 288 Finish Line stores across 40 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, primarily in shopping malls, alongside e-commerce channels. As a subsidiary of JD Sports Fashion Plc since its acquisition in June 2018 for $558 million, Finish Line targets performance-driven consumers seeking premium sports fashion and maintains a multi-channel presence serving customers nationwide. Finish Line participates in the competitive athletic retail industry, focusing on footwear (core category), softgoods and accessories segments within the broader sportswear market. Its store portfolio complements JD Sports' North American operations, which include JD fascia stores, Hibbett, City Gear, Shoe Palace and DTLR, providing mass, reach and focus customer coverage across urban, suburban and rural areas. In recent years, Finish Line has undergone significant strategic integration under JD Sports ownership, including ongoing conversion of its stores to the JD brand fascia as part of a multi-year programme now over halfway complete, with 62 conversions in FY25 and plans to accelerate the remainder targeting full transition within three years from high-volume locations first. JD Sports completed major North American expansions with the July 2024 acquisition of Hibbett, Inc. (adding 1,179 stores and enabling at least $25 million in medium-term synergies across supply chain and back-office functions), enhancing Finish Line's platform for JD growth in malls and communities. Additional initiatives include re-platforming e-commerce sites for JD and Finish Line (US go-live by end-2025), rollout of the joint JD STATUS loyalty programme with over 8 million active members, and supply chain optimizations such as multi-fascia distribution centres to support omnichannel efficiency.
