- Galp Energia, SGPS, S.A. is a Portuguese multinational integrated energy company that engages in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas; refining, trading, logistics and marketing of oil products, natural gas and electricity; and development of renewables and new businesses including solar, wind, batteries and sustainable aviation fuel. Headquartered in Lisbon and founded in 1999 through the merger of Petrogal and Gás de Portugal, the company operates primarily through four segments—Upstream, Refining & Midstream, Commercial, and Renewables & New Businesses—with key activities in hydrocarbon exploration and production focused on Brazil, Mozambique, Angola and Namibia; refining at facilities in Sines and Matosinhos, Portugal; retail of fuels, gas and power through approximately 1,300 service stations mainly in Iberia; and renewable projects encompassing photovoltaic and wind capacity exceeding 4 gigawatts, a joint venture with Northvolt for lithium battery production via Aurora, and smart energy solutions for decentralized generation. Galp maintains significant offshore assets including stakes in Brazil's pre-salt Santos Basin (Lula/Iracema fields), Mozambique's Area 4 natural gas discovery, Angola's Block 14, and Namibia's Mopane complex holding about 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent in-place resources; it distributes natural gas across Portugal and markets electricity while expanding into biofuels and electric vehicle charging networks in private spaces such as IKEA and shopping centers in Portugal. Recent developments include the 2025 start of production from Brazil's Bacalhau FPSO boosting upstream output, raised full-year EBITDA guidance above 3 billion euros driven by gas trading and LNG from U.S. supplier Venture Global, advanced negotiations to divest a portion of its 80% stake in Namibia's Mopane to a major oil operator by year-end, a $1.2 billion commitment to double wind and solar capacity to 4 gigawatts by 2025 with two-thirds of capex allocated to green energy, expansion of its Portuguese battery factory with Northvolt, full acquisition of the remaining 24.99% stake in Spanish solar JV Titan Solar for 140 million euros bringing 1.15 gigawatts online and 1.6 gigawatts under development, a strategic partnership for sustainable aviation fuel production from waste and recycled oils, a cooperation protocol with Matosinhos authorities for refinery site reconversion into an innovation district and university campus, and acquisitions of up to 4.8 gigawatts of renewable projects in Brazil including 594 megawatts of solar.
