Business
Goldman Sachs Human Evolution ETF (GDNA), issued by Goldman Sachs ETF Trust and managed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, L.P., seeks to provide investment results that correspond to the performance of the Goldman Sachs Human Evolution Index prior to fees and expenses. The fund measures the performance of equity securities of companies that stand to benefit from the development and commercialization of medical treatments and technologies addressing the human condition from birth through end-of-life care; its core themes and holdings emphasize precision medicine, including targeted therapies and genetic sequencing; robotic surgery, encompassing minimally invasive systems and miniaturized instruments; genomics, covering genome sequencing, bioinformatics, gene therapy, gene editing and pharmacogenomics; life extension products and services for aging populations, such as dialysis and cardiovascular devices; and digital health solutions like consumer wearables and telehealth platforms. The ETF holds approximately 500 stocks selected and weighted by thematic beta, with top positions typically including Intuitive Surgical Inc., Abbott Laboratories, Medtronic Plc., Johnson & Johnson and Roche Holding AG; geographic exposure is primarily to North America (around 76%), followed by developed Europe (17%), emerging markets (5%) and developed Asia Pacific (2%), spanning developed market exchanges. Launched on March 1, 2019, and listed on NYSE Arca, GDNA is headquartered in New York alongside its sponsor Goldman Sachs Asset Management, with an expense ratio of 0.50%. In a significant operational change effective May 15, 2020, Goldman Sachs Asset Management replaced Motif Capital Management as index provider, prompting a name update from Goldman Sachs Motif Human Evolution ETF to its current form and aligning the benchmark with Goldman Sachs' proprietary methodology. The fund continues to operate within Goldman Sachs Asset Management's broader lineup of over 40 thematic and fixed income ETFs managing more than $35 billion as of mid-2024, reflecting ongoing expansion in exchange-traded products amid growing demand for innovation-focused healthcare exposure.
