- Goldman Sachs Mid Cap Growth Fund Class A Shares (GGOAX) is an open-end mutual fund that seeks long-term growth of capital by investing, under normal circumstances, at least 80% of its net assets plus any borrowings for investment purposes in a diversified portfolio of equity investments in mid-cap issuers, generally those with public stock market capitalizations between $1 billion and $100 billion; the fund may also invest up to 25% of its total assets in foreign securities, including those of issuers in emerging markets, and in privately held or recently public companies. The fund employs a fundamental equity growth investment process that evaluates potential investments based on characteristics indicating high-quality businesses with sustainable growth, such as strong franchises, favorable long-term prospects, excellent management, and reasonable valuations, potentially integrating environmental, social, and governance factors; its benchmark is the Russell Midcap Growth Index. Share classes include Class A (GGOAX, with a 5.50% maximum front-end sales load and net expense ratio of 1.16%), Class C (GGOCX), Institutional (GGOIX), Service (GGOSX), Investor (GGOTX), Class R (GGORX), and Class R6 (GGOUX); as of late 2024, total assets approximated $887 million with a portfolio turnover rate of 63% for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2024.
The fund, formerly known as Goldman Sachs Growth Opportunities Fund, was renamed Goldman Sachs Mid Cap Growth Fund effective after the close of business on April 13, 2022, to better reflect its mid-cap focus following a strategic shift in principal investment strategies through February 11, 2022. In March 2025, a supplement to the prospectus announced that portfolio manager Steven M. Barry would cease managing the fund effective June 30, 2025, leaving Jenny Chang as the sole portfolio manager; the fund is advised by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, L.P., based at 200 West Street, New York, New York, with transfer agent services at 71 South Wacker Drive, Suite 1200, Chicago, Illinois. The series within Goldman Sachs Trust was established as part of a Delaware statutory trust dated January 28, 1997, with Class A shares incepted on May 24, 1999. No recent partnerships, acquisitions, funding rounds, or new product launches specific to GGOAX were identified within the last 1-2 years, though the broader Goldman Sachs Asset Management announced an agreement in late 2025 to acquire Innovator Capital Management, adding defined outcome ETFs. The fund targets growth-oriented investors, including individuals and institutions, with geographic focus primarily on U.S. issuers and limited emerging markets exposure.
