Business
Canoo Inc. is a mobility technology company specializing in the design, engineering, development, and manufacture of electric vehicles primarily for commercial and consumer markets. The company’s core products include modular electric vehicle platforms such as the Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle, available in variants like the Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle 130 and 190. Its product lineup spans electric cargo vans, crew transportation vehicles, and multipurpose electric vehicles built on a proprietary skateboard platform offering flexible vehicle configurations with battery ranges of approximately 250 to 350 miles. Canoo also develops advanced software platforms integrating vehicle data and driver-assistance systems, including Level 2+ autonomous driving features, supported by strategic partnerships for software development. The company targets commercial fleet operators, government, and military customers across North America, the UK, and the Middle East, with facilities and operations spread across Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, and the UK. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, Canoo has recently undergone significant operational and strategic changes. These include relocating its corporate headquarters from California to Texas, consolidating manufacturing facilities to improve efficiency, and obtaining Foreign Trade Zone status for its Oklahoma City plant to reduce costs. In early 2024, Canoo acquired manufacturing assets from the bankrupt EV start-up Arrival to expand and automate its production capabilities, aiming to reduce capital expenditures and accelerate time-to-market. The company has also expanded internationally with the establishment of a UK legal entity and initiation of commercial operations there. However, Canoo faced financial challenges culminating in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in January 2025, leading to the cessation of operations. Prior to this, Canoo had secured funding agreements to support its production and operational efforts while actively developing its electric vehicle product range and expanding its market presence. Overall, Canoo’s business model centers on innovative modular electric vehicle platforms and subscription-based mobility solutions catering to commercial and government fleet sectors, supported by proprietary battery technology and software development.
