Business
Green Rise Foods Inc. operates as a Canadian controlled-environment agriculture company that grows and supplies fresh greenhouse produce for the North American market. The Company owns and operates approximately 89 acres of controlled-environment greenhouse facilities and produces bee-pollinated tomatoes, peppers and other fresh vegetables marketed under the SUNSET brand through its distribution partner, Mastronardi Produce Ltd. Its product portfolio includes One Sweet Peppers; MiMi Gourmet Tomatoes; Zima tomatoes; XL Beef beefsteak tomatoes; Wild Wonders specialty tomatoes; Honey Bombs tomatoes; and Mini Kumato tomatoes. Green Rise focuses on year-round, locally grown, quality fresh produce produced through environmentally conscious growing practices, technology-enabled cultivation and cost-efficient greenhouse operations, serving retail and food-distribution customers. The Company is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and operates greenhouse farming assets in Canada. In 2026, Green Rise initiated a strategic review to evaluate alternatives including a sale of assets or the Company, merger or other business combination, going-private transaction, refinancing, recapitalization or other strategic transaction. In July 2026, it amended its credit agreement with Royal Bank of Canada to support the strategic-review process and received a CAD1.581 million non-convertible secured loan from Opus Financial Inc., an entity controlled by its board chair and interim chief executive officer, Enrico (Rick) Paolone, to fund operations, reduce borrowings under its bank operating line and facilitate the review. The Company continues to invest in greenhouse infrastructure and crop-management activities intended to improve lighting, disease prevention and heat mitigation while maintaining planned production levels.
