- Highwood Asset Management Ltd. is a Canada-based oil and gas exploration and production company that acquires, develops, operates and monetizes upstream petroleum assets, with a primary focus on conventional oil and natural gas properties in Alberta. The Company produces crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids; conducts drilling, completion, production optimization and field-development activities; markets hydrocarbons; and operates related midstream infrastructure, including the wholly owned Wabasca River Pipeline System, a crude-oil sales line with capacity of approximately 20,000 barrels per day connecting northern Alberta production to the Plains Rainbow System. Highwood also holds interests in early-stage brine-hosted mineral and lithium-brine exploration acreage in Alberta, including the Drumheller area, although its principal operating business is oil and gas production. The Company serves Canadian energy markets and conducts its operations primarily in Alberta, Canada. Highwood Asset Management Ltd. was founded in 2012, is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and was formerly known as Highwood Oil Company Ltd. before adopting its current name in July 2021.
In 2026, Highwood completed a strategic divestiture of its Wilson Creek oil and natural gas assets to Obsidian Energy Ltd. for total consideration of up to $112 million, comprising $105 million of cash consideration and up to $7 million of contingent consideration; the transaction closed on June 30, 2026 and refocused the Company’s producing asset base on its remaining operations. Following the disposition, Highwood implemented its inaugural normal course issuer bid, under which it may repurchase and cancel common shares, as part of its shareholder-return strategy. For the second quarter of 2026, the Company reported average corporate production of 5,079 barrels of oil equivalent per day, including approximately 2,900 barrels of oil equivalent per day from assets retained following the Wilson Creek sale.
