- VictoryShares Hedged Equity Income ETF (HEJD) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks capital appreciation and, to a lesser extent, current income by investing in high dividend-yielding U.S. stocks of any market capitalization while shorting highly correlated equity index futures, such as those on the S&P 500 Index and Russell 2000 Index, to offset market risk and provide a consistent hedge adjusted to market movements. The fund employs a proprietary multi-faceted approach, including an overlay portfolio that is long NASDAQ-100 Index futures and short S&P 500 Index futures to diversify risk exposures related to growth, size, and momentum; it maintains a portfolio of approximately 200-220 holdings with net equity exposure around 60%, diversified across sectors such as information technology, utilities, consumer staples, and communication services. Launched on July 11, 2024, and listed on Nasdaq, HEJD is issued by Victory Portfolios II and managed by Victory Capital Management Inc., with portfolio managers Mannik Dhillon, CFA, CAIA, and Lance Humphrey, CFA; it is part of the VictoryShares ETF lineup offered by Victory Capital, a San Antonio, Texas-based asset manager with roots tracing to 1894.
The fund targets U.S. public equity markets, investing directly and through derivatives in dividend-paying growth and value stocks across diversified sectors and market caps, with at least 80% of assets in such securities under normal circumstances; it offers income without bond exposure, reduced volatility relative to long-only strategies, modest correlation to U.S. equities, and low correlation to fixed income. HEJD provides a systematic, transparent, liquid alternative to traditional investments, with a net expense ratio of 0.55% (contractual through October 31, 2025) and assets under management around $37 million as of recent data.
In a significant recent development, Victory Portfolios II announced on December 4, 2025, plans to liquidate HEJD, along with VictoryShares WestEnd Economic Cycle Bond ETF (BMDL) and VictoryShares International Volatility Wtd ETF (CIL), following a review of its product lineup to better meet client needs; trading will cease on January 29, 2026, with liquidation anticipated on or about February 4, 2026, after which shareholders will receive cash equal to net asset value. Prior to this, Victory Capital, HEJD's adviser, completed a strategic partnership with Amundi in early 2025, acquiring Amundi US (including Pioneer Investments) effective April 1, 2025, adding approximately $115 billion in assets under management and enhancing global distribution across more than 60 countries. No other major acquisitions, funding rounds, or product launches specific to HEJD have been reported in the last 1-2 years, though Victory Capital expanded its VictoryShares offerings with new active ETFs like GLOW and BMDL in mid-2024.
