- Vinacomin - Coal Import Export Joint Stock Company, operating under the trade name Coalimex, is a Vietnam-based state-affiliated trading and logistics enterprise primarily engaged in the import, export, and domestic distribution of coal, mineral commodities, and mining equipment. Established in 1982 and headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam, the company operates as a key trading subsidiary of the state-owned Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) and is publicly traded on the Hanoi Stock Exchange under the ticker CLM.
The company operates through five principal business segments: Coal Trading and Distribution, Mining Machinery and Material Supply, Logistics and Port Services, Commercial Real Estate and Office Leasing, and Overseas Manpower Export. Within its core Coal Trading and Distribution segment, the company imports and exports energy commodities, including anthracite coal, bituminous coal, sub-bituminous coal, and coking coal for domestic thermal power generation plants, cement manufacturers, chemical producers, and metallurgy enterprises, while exporting Vietnamese high-grade anthracite to international markets across Asia and Europe, including Japan, South Korea, and China. In its Mining Machinery and Material Supply segment, the company sources and distributes heavy mining machinery; underground and open-pit excavation equipment; specialized transport vehicles; conveyor systems; spare parts; industrial explosives; and raw materials used in mineral extraction and processing facilities. Through its Logistics and Port Services division, the company provides end-to-end multimodal transport solutions, including freight forwarding; customs clearance brokerage; vessel chartering and shipping agency operations; cargo stevedoring; and coal blending, storage, and transshipment services at strategic riverine and deepwater port terminals across northern and central Vietnam. In its Real Estate segment, the company manages and leases premium commercial office spaces and mixed-use facilities, primarily through the Coalimex Building in Hanoi. Additionally, the company provides overseas labor cooperation services, encompassing vocational training, credential certification, and labor deployment to foreign markets such as Japan and Taiwan.
In recent developments, Vinacomin - Coal Import Export Joint Stock Company has strategically expanded its global coal procurement footprint to address rising domestic fuel deficits and secure coal feedstock for national thermal power plants, establishing direct supply partnerships and long-term procurement agreements with major mining producers in Indonesia, Australia, and South Africa. To enhance supply chain efficiency, the company has scaled up its customized coal blending operations, investing in automated transshipment technologies and terminal handling infrastructure to meet strict technical specifications for power generation facilities. Concurrently, the company has accelerated digital transformation initiatives across its international trading, logistics tracking, and enterprise risk management workflows, modernizing contract execution and mitigating volatility risks associated with global commodity price swings and foreign exchange fluctuations.
