Internationally, the bank operates a wholly owned banking subsidiary in Laos, full foreign commercial banking branches in Frankfurt and Berlin, Germany, and a representative office in Yangon, Myanmar. The State Bank of Vietnam maintains majority ownership in the bank, alongside Japan-based MUFG Bank as its principal foreign strategic shareholder.
In recent developments, VietinBank has advanced a comprehensive multi-year digital transformation strategy, upgrading its core banking architecture and integrating artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and automated credit decisioning to scale transaction volumes across its VietinBank iPay and VietinBank eFAST platforms. The bank has also significantly expanded its sustainable finance program, instituting an enterprise-wide Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risk management framework and securing international syndicated green loan facilities to support renewable energy, waste treatment, and energy-efficient manufacturing projects in Vietnam. To support asset expansion and maintain compliance with Basel II and Basel III capital adequacy standards, VietinBank has implemented charter capital increases through stock dividend distributions funded by retained earnings. Furthermore, the bank has broadened its strategic co-financing cooperation with MUFG Bank to service multinational corporate supply chains, while forming new strategic alliances with domestic technology, telecommunications, and industrial partners to deliver integrated supply chain financing and embedded payment solutions.
