Business
Ho Chi Minh City Development Joint Stock Commercial Bank (HDBank) is a Vietnam-based commercial banking institution engaged in the provision of comprehensive retail, commercial, corporate, and consumer finance services. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the bank operates an extensive nationwide distribution network of transaction offices, banking branches, and consumer finance service points across urban, suburban, and rural regions of Vietnam. The bank organizes its operations into several core business segments: Retail Banking, Corporate and SME Banking, Consumer Finance, and Treasury and Financial Markets. In Retail Banking, HDBank provides individual deposit accounts, including current accounts, demand deposits, structured savings, and fixed-term certificates of deposit; consumer credit facilities, comprising residential mortgages, home improvement loans, auto loans, unsecured personal installment loans, and student loans; payment and card services, such as Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and NAPAS-branded credit and debit cards, contactless payment cards, and co-branded loyalty cards; wealth management and bancassurance distribution for life and non-life insurance policies; and domestic and cross-border remittance, foreign exchange, and utility bill settlement services. In Corporate and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Banking, the institution provides working capital loans, project financing, syndicated credit facilities, and agricultural value-chain financing; trade finance and international settlement services, including import and export letters of credit (L/C), standby letters of credit, documentary collections, performance guarantees, bid bonds, and export-import factoring; cash and liquidity management, encompassing automated payroll disbursement, corporate escrow accounts, account pooling, and merchant collections; and digital merchant financing solutions tailored for small and micro businesses. In Consumer Finance, HDBank operates primarily through its joint-venture subsidiary, HD SAISON Finance Co., Ltd., offering retail point-of-sale consumer installment loans, motorcycle and motor vehicle financing, consumer electronics and home appliance financing, direct cash loans, and co-branded consumer credit cards across thousands of authorized partner locations nationwide. In Treasury and Financial Markets, the bank engages in interbank lending and borrowing; government and corporate bond underwriting, trading, and custody; foreign exchange spot, forward, and swap transactions; and interest rate derivatives and commodity risk hedging solutions for corporate clients. In Digital Banking, the bank offers the HDBank Mobile App for individual consumers, HDBank Omnichannel corporate digital banking platform, digital onboarding via electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) technology, QR code payment acquiring, and automated virtual assistant banking services. Recent major developments include the expansion of the bank's capital base through multi-phase charter capital increases via stock dividends and employee share ownership plans to strengthen its capital adequacy ratio under Basel II and Basel III standards. HDBank has also participated in the State Bank of Vietnam's national banking restructuring initiative through the planned mandatory transfer and turnaround of a distressed commercial lender. In addition, the bank has secured multi-million-dollar green trade finance and syndicated credit facilities from international institutions, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Proparco, and DEG, dedicated to financing renewable energy projects, green agriculture, sustainable supply chains, and women-owned small and medium-sized enterprises (WSMEs). Furthermore, HDBank continues to broaden its digital ecosystem integration in partnership with aviation, retail, and telecommunications affiliates, expanding automated lending capabilities, merchant acquiring networks, and end-to-end digital banking channels.
