Business
PT Adaro Andalan Indonesia Tbk is an Indonesia-based integrated energy and resources holding company primarily engaged in thermal coal mining, coal trading, mining contracting, maritime logistics, and power generation. Founded in 2004 and headquartered in South Jakarta, Indonesia, the company operates an integrated pit-to-port supply chain that serves electric power utilities, industrial manufacturers, cement producers, and metallurgical enterprises across domestic Indonesian and international export markets. The company operates through four principal business segments: Coal Mining and Trading, Mining Services, Logistics, and Power Generation. Under its Coal Mining and Trading division, the company explores, mines, processes, and markets thermal coal, primarily featuring its proprietary Envirocoal brand, a sub-bituminous thermal coal characterized by low ash, low sulfur, and low nitrogen content used in pulverized coal and circulating fluidized bed boilers; ultra-low pollutant thermal coal grades tailored for environmental compliance; and traded metallurgical and blending coals sourced from concession areas located in South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan. Under its Mining Services segment, primarily operated through subsidiary PT Saptaindra Sejati, the company provides end-to-end open-pit mining contracting solutions, including overburden removal and drilling; heavy equipment fleet management, maintenance, and operation; mine planning, civil works, and pit design; blasting and coal extraction; and pit-to-stockpile haulage. Under its Logistics and Infrastructure segment, primarily operated through PT Maritim Barito Perkasa, PT Indonesia Bulk Terminal, and PT Sarana Daya Mandiri, the company provides riverine and open-sea dry bulk freight transportation; intermediate stockpile handling and blending; coal crushing, screening, and shiploading; floating crane transshipment and deep-sea port handling at Pulau Laut; barging and towage fleet operations; marine navigation channel dredging, maintenance, and waterway management along the Barito River channel; and integrated fuel distribution and bunkering services for marine and mining equipment. Under its Power Generation segment, the company develops, owns, and operates thermal power facilities through independent power producer subsidiaries and project vehicles, including coal-fired mine-mouth power plants such as the 2x30 megawatt plant operated by PT Makmur Sejahtera Wisesa in South Kalimantan and high-efficiency thermal power stations such as the 2x100 megawatt facility operated by PT Tanjung Power Indonesia. PT Adaro Andalan Indonesia Tbk distributes its coal and energy products across key domestic power generation networks in Indonesia under domestic market obligation requirements and exports to major regional markets across the Asia-Pacific region, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. In recent major corporate developments, the company completed an Initial Public Offering on the Indonesia Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AADI in December 2024, concluding a major corporate separation and restructuring from PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk, which subsequently rebranded to PT Alamtri Resources Indonesia Tbk. The spin-off and reorganization consolidated key thermal coal mining concessions, including PT Adaro Indonesia, mining contracting operations under PT Saptaindra Sejati, marine barging and bulk terminal assets, and conventional power generation holdings into a standalone publicly listed entity. Following the listing, the company has focused on optimizing capital allocation, expanding third-party mining service contracts, upgrading maritime logistics and dredging operations to enhance channel efficiency, and modernizing heavy fleet equipment to improve operational efficiency and cost management across its Kalimantan operations.
