- Lithium ION Energy Ltd. engages in the acquisition, exploration and development of lithium mineral properties primarily in Mongolia and Canada. The company holds the flagship Baavhai Uul lithium brine project covering approximately 65,000 hectares in Mongolia's Dornogovi Province; the Urgakh Naran lithium brine project spanning 29,000 hectares in the same province; and the Bliss Lake and Little Nahani lithium pegmatite projects in Canada's Northwest Territories. Incorporated in 2017 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, the company targets brine and hard-rock lithium deposits to supply the global clean energy market, with operations focused on arid, low-cost environments near major Asian battery manufacturing hubs including China, South Korea and Japan.
In March 2025, Lithium ION Energy entered a US$13.5 million joint venture agreement with SureFQ Ltd. on the Urgakh Naran project, under which SureFQ funds US$5.5 million in cash payments to ION over 4.5 years and US$8 million in development expenditures over four years, while ION retains a 20% free carried interest to commercial production and a 2.5% net smelter return royalty in perpetuity; the deal awaits TSX Venture Exchange approval and closing by July 2025. In the same announcement, the company completed a debt settlement of $120,000 via issuance of 3 million common shares at $0.04 per share to non-arm's length creditors. It also terminated a previously announced October 2024 letter of intent for a business combination with United Rare Earths Ltd., a US-based rare earths recycling firm, to refocus on lithium and critical metals opportunities. The company changed its name from Ion Energy Ltd. to Lithium ION Energy Ltd. in August 2023.
