Business
Easterly Global Real Estate Fund Class C (JACRX) is an open-end mutual fund that seeks total return through a combination of current income and capital appreciation by investing primarily in global real estate and real estate-related securities. The Fund normally invests at least 80% of its net assets plus any borrowings for investment purposes in equity securities, convertible securities, and instruments issued by real estate investment trusts (REITs) and REIT-like entities, including real estate operating companies; it also employs derivatives such as options, dividend capture strategies, and covered call-writing overlays across growth and value stocks in diversified market capitalizations, with at least 40% allocated to issuers in at least three foreign countries. Benchmarking against the FTSE EPRA/NAREIT Developed Net Index, the Fund targets high-conviction holdings of approximately 50 securities, with top sectors including real estate (over 86%), concentrated in regions such as the United States (57%), Australasia, the United Kingdom, Eurozone, and Europe ex-Euro; as of August 31, 2024, net assets stood at $321.4 million across 41 holdings, including American Homes 4 Rent, Ellington Financial, and Infrastrutture Wireless Italiane. Launched in 2012 as part of James Alpha Funds Trust (reorganized from a predecessor portfolio in 2021), the Fund is managed by Easterly Investment Partners LLC, with Chief Investment Officer Andrew Duffy leading since 2009, and is domiciled in the United States with administrative operations linked to Wilmington, Delaware, and New York. In March 2024, Easterly Investment Partners LLC became the investment adviser following the shareholder-approved reorganization of prior adviser Easterly Funds LLC, with Easterly as the surviving entity; the Fund also significantly reduced exposure to Hong Kong and the office sector (to 2.2%), alongside portfolio adjustments including overweights in residential and Germany, underweights in Japan and Australia, amid a fiscal year portfolio turnover of 141%.
