Business
KAL Group Limited operates as a diversified trading and retail entity deeply embedded in the agricultural, industrial production, consumer retail, and fuel and convenience sectors across South Africa and Namibia. The organization channels its extensive operations through several key divisions: Agrimark, PEG Retail Operations, Agrimark Grain, and a dedicated Manufacturing segment. Within its Agrimark portfolio, the company provides a comprehensive range of production inputs, including seeds, animal feed, fertilizers, and a variety of mechanization equipment, alongside associated services for agricultural producers and the general public. This division also encompasses grain handling, storage facilities, and the marketing of diverse agricultural commodities like small grains and oilseeds, extending to the trading of potatoes. Additionally, Agrimark caters to home improvement and gardening needs, offers pet provisions, distributes essential packaging materials for fresh produce, and delivers financial solutions. Stores like Forge Agri and Farmsave further augment its offering with agri-supplies and building materials, while Forge Build provides hardware and bulk construction items. The PEG Retail Operations division focuses on providing a full spectrum of retail fuel services, which includes a network of convenience stores operating under the Expressmark brand, along with quick service restaurant outlets. This segment also manages dedicated tyre and fitment centers, supplying wheels, tires, batteries, and related maintenance services. The Manufacturing arm produces and distributes plastic items, such as bulk bins, and specialized irrigation equipment, including micro sprinklers, inline valves, and automated systems. With over 270 operational points spanning both South Africa and Namibia, KAL Group serves a wide and varied customer base, from large-scale commercial farming enterprises and building contractors to home gardeners, DIY enthusiasts, and daily commuters, emphasizing a "farm to fork" and "lifestyle retailer" approach. The company, which was formerly known as Kaap Agri Limited until its renaming in March 2023, continues to expand its market presence and enhance efficiency. Notably, in May 2023, KAL Group entered a strategic partnership with ETG Logistics to retail compact tractors, quad bikes, and motorcycles through its Agrimark branches, further diversifying its mechanization offerings. More recently, in September 2025, the company agreed to dispose of its Agriplas manufacturing unit. KAL Group reported a revenue of ZAR 20.50 billion over the latest twelve months period ending March 31, 2025. The organization is strategically focused on strengthening its financial position, having reduced its debt-to-equity ratio to 48.4% as of March 2025, the lowest in a decade. The company declared an interim dividend of 56.00 cents per share for the first half of 2025, reflecting confidence in its future performance. Established in 1912, KAL Group Limited maintains its corporate headquarters in Paarl, South Africa, and is committed to an F30 strategy targeting ZAR 1.5 billion in profit before tax by 2030, with goals for further debt reduction and improved returns on equity and invested capital.
