- Kinetics Market Opportunities Fund (KMKYX) is a non-diversified open-end mutual fund that seeks total return by investing primarily in companies engaged in capital markets-related activities and services, which generally benefit from increasing transactional volume or facilitating financial transactions without employing financial leverage or risking their own capital. The Fund pursues its investment objective by allocating all investable assets to the Market Opportunities Portfolio, a series of Kinetics Portfolios Trust, with a focus on global equities across all market capitalizations that exhibit high operating leverage, high returns on equity, and scalability; key holdings include Texas Pacific Land Corp., Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF, Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., LandBridge Co LLC, and Partners Value Investments LP, providing exposure to sectors such as oil and gas extraction, securities and commodities contracts, and other financial investment activities, as well as indirect bitcoin exposure through unit investment trusts. The Institutional Class (KMKYX) features a net expense ratio of 1.20%, a minimum initial investment of $1,000,000, and a 2.00% redemption fee for shares sold within 30 days; other share classes include No Load (KMKNX), Advisor A (KMKAX), and Advisor C (KMKCX). Launched on January 31, 2006, and domiciled in the United States with operations focused on U.S. and international markets including Canada, the United Kingdom, and others, the Fund is managed by Horizon Kinetics Asset Management LLC (HKAM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Horizon Kinetics LLC headquartered in New York City with additional offices in White Plains, NY, and Summit, NJ; portfolio managers include Murray Stahl (Chairman, CEO, and CIO since inception), Peter Doyle, James Davolos, and Steven Bregman. In April 2019, the Fund's adviser transitioned through a reorganization when Kinetics Asset Management LLC and Kinetics Advisers, LLC merged into Horizon Asset Management LLC, which was subsequently renamed Horizon Kinetics Asset Management LLC, with no changes to the portfolio management team, investment objective, or strategy.
