Business
Chosun Refractories Co., Ltd. is a South Korea-based industrial materials company primarily engaged in the development, manufacture, and distribution of comprehensive refractory products and high-temperature thermal solutions. Operating as a subsidiary of CR Holdings Co., Ltd., the company serves heavy industrial sectors with a strong focus on the iron and steel industry, alongside cement, glass, petrochemical, and non-ferrous metal manufacturing. The company organizes its core offerings across multiple product lines and specialized engineering services: shaped refractories, including magnesia-carbon (MgO-C) bricks, high-alumina bricks, fireclay bricks, silicon carbide bricks, zircon bricks, acid-resistant bricks, and insulating firebricks; unshaped and monolithic refractories, comprising refractory castables, pre-cast blocks, gunning materials, plastic refractories, ramming mixes, blast furnace trough runner materials, and high-temperature joint mortars; continuous casting flow-control products, consisting of submerged entry nozzles (SEN), ladle shroud nozzles, and monoblock long stoppers; sliding nozzle (SN) systems and components, including slide gate plates, collector nozzles, porous gas-purging plugs, sliding nozzles, and automated slide gate valve mechanisms; and refractory engineering services, encompassing furnace lining design, masonry construction, high-temperature thermal facility maintenance, and technical diagnostics for blast furnaces, converters, ladles, and tundishes. Originally established in 1947 and headquartered in Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, the company operates major manufacturing facilities and research centers in Gwangyang and Pohang, supported by international sales networks and operational footholds across key global markets including China, Indonesia, Japan, and Europe. In July 2023, the enterprise completed a major corporate restructuring and spin-off, transitioning the legacy entity into CR Holdings Co., Ltd. and re-establishing Chosun Refractories Co., Ltd. as an independent operating company listed on the Korea Exchange under ticker 462520. Following the reorganization, the company has focused on expanding its high-performance functional refractory portfolio, advancing energy-saving and carbon-reducing refractory technologies, and reinforcing long-term supply arrangements with key industrial partners such as POSCO while expanding global export operations.
