Business
Kuwait International Bank K.S.C.P. (KIB) is a Kuwait-based Islamic financial institution engaged in the provision of comprehensive commercial banking, retail banking, investment, and financial solutions in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles. Founded in 1973 as the Kuwait Real Estate Bank and headquartered in Kuwait City, Kuwait, the institution officially transitioned into a full-fledged Islamic bank in July 2007 and trades on Boursa Kuwait under the ticker KIB. The bank conducts its operations through four principal business segments: Retail Banking; Commercial, Real Estate, and International Banking; Treasury and Investment Banking; and Other Operations. Through these segments, KIB serves individual retail consumers, high-net-worth clients, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large corporate entities, and international financial institutions. Its retail banking offerings include current, savings, youth, and salary accounts; term investment and Wakala deposit products; Sharia-compliant consumer and installment financing structured under Murabaha, Musawama, and Istisna'a arrangements for automobiles, personal goods, and medical needs; credit, debit, and prepaid card solutions; and digital banking services delivered through the KIB Mobile application, internet banking portals, and the Al Dawli Weyak contact center. The commercial and international banking division provides corporate credit facilities; working capital financing; project finance; syndicated financing; trade finance instruments comprising letters of credit and letters of guarantee; lease-to-own arrangements (Ijara Muntahia Bittamleek); and specialized real estate financing. KIB also operates a dedicated Real Estate Appraisal Division (READ), delivering certified property appraisals, construction cost evaluations, and market feasibility studies. Its treasury and investment division handles liquidity management, money market operations, foreign exchange transactions, correspondent banking, and Sharia-compliant fixed-income securities. In addition, the bank operates key subsidiaries, including KIB Invest, its wholly owned asset management and investment banking arm; Al Dawli Takaful Insurance Company (KIB Takaful), offering Islamic insurance products; and special-purpose issuance vehicles including KIB Sukuk Limited. In recent operational and strategic developments, KIB has strengthened its capital position and diversified its funding structure by expanding its international Sukuk Issuance Program to USD 1.5 billion with approval from the Central Bank of Kuwait, subsequently executing the issuance of a USD 300 million Tier 2 Sustainable Sukuk listed on the London Stock Exchange and initiating redemptions of legacy capital instruments. In wealth and asset management, KIB operationalized KIB Invest, consolidating its portfolio management, fund administration, custody, and corporate advisory services under licenses granted by the Kuwait Capital Markets Authority. In technology and fintech enablement, KIB deployed the KIB Aqari digital real estate platform to automate property evaluation and real estate transaction workflows, and entered the Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and Card-as-a-Service (CaaS) domain by becoming the first bank in Kuwait to join the Visa Ready for Fintech Enablement program, providing API-driven infrastructure and payment processing to third-party fintech and enterprise partners. Furthermore, the bank advanced its enterprise-wide digital modernization program by deploying cloud-native middleware and upgrading its digital banking infrastructure to streamline corporate and retail digital onboarding.
