Business
China Life Insurance Company Limited (SEHK:2628, SSE:601628) is China's largest life insurer by market share and a leading provider of life, health, annuity, and accident insurance products to individuals and groups. The company offers a diversified portfolio of core products and services, including individual life insurance such as term life, whole life, and endowment plans; health insurance covering medical and critical illness protection; annuity products for retirement planning; accident insurance; group life and medical insurance; as well as reinsurance services through proportional and non-proportional arrangements; and investment-linked insurance options. It operates primarily through three main segments—individual insurance, group insurance, and investment income—targeting retail customers, enterprises, and institutional clients across China, with additional presence in overseas markets including Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia, and Russia. Founded in 1949 as part of the People's Insurance Company of China and restructured into its current form in 1996 with a 2003 listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company is headquartered at China Life Center, 17 Financial Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, China. As a subsidiary of China Life Insurance (Group) Company, it maintains strategic stakes such as the largest shareholder position in China Guangfa Bank since 2016, supporting integrated insurance, banking, and investment operations. The company employs over 630,000 people and reported accumulated premium income of RMB 626.9 billion for January to October 2024, reflecting a 4.9% year-over-year increase driven by product innovation and market expansion. In recent developments, China Life Insurance announced in June 2025 its entry into a connected transaction partnership with CNNP, China-Russia Nuclear Industry Fund, Guangzhou Jinhong, and CNNC-IFMC to form a RMB 1.501 billion investment partnership focused on nuclear industry opportunities. The company continues geographic expansion into new markets and invests heavily in artificial intelligence and automation to enhance operational efficiency, alongside a 123% revenue growth over the past year and new product launches exceeding sales expectations. Additionally, in 2023 it invested $3.5 billion in Honghu Private Securities Investment Fund to boost capital utilization and long-term assets, while reissuing CNY 35 billion in capital supplementary bonds in September 2024 to strengthen its capital position; it maintains active operations in Russia as of 2025.
