In addition, the company provides value-added port and maritime support services, including customs warehousing and clearance, cargo sorting, packaging, palletization, weighing, rail shunting, inland terminal management, and technical port maintenance.
In recent strategic developments, Luka Koper is executing its Strategic Business Plan 2024–2028, supported by a 785 million euro capital investment program focused on terminal capacity expansion, digital infrastructure, and decarbonization. Major ongoing and recent operational initiatives include the extension of the Pier I container quayside by 326 meters and the development of 7 hectares of adjoining container stacking areas to increase total annual container capacity to 1.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs); the construction of a dedicated multi-storey vehicle parking garage with an 11,700-vehicle capacity to expand automotive throughput; the development of Berth 12 dedicated to project cargo and roll-on/roll-off traffic; and the construction of an automated, energy-self-sufficient steel coil warehouse facility scheduled for completion in 2026. To support this intensive investment cycle, the company secured a 165 million euro syndicated credit facility with commercial banks in 2026. Furthermore, under its Smart Port and green transition program, Luka Koper has expanded its on-site renewable energy infrastructure through multi-megawatt rooftop photovoltaic solar installations, invested in fully electric rubber-tired gantry (e-RTG) cranes, and advanced the implementation of on-shore power supply (OPS) systems to enable berthed vessels to connect directly to the electrical grid. The company also coordinates operations with the development of the national Divača–Koper second railway track infrastructure project, scheduled to substantially expand hinterland rail connectivity.
Founded in 1957 and headquartered in Koper, Slovenia, Luka Koper d.d. operates under a long-term state concession agreement valid until 2043. The company serves as a strategic maritime transport gateway connecting overseas markets in the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and the Far East with Central and Southeastern European hinterland economies, principally Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Southern Germany, Poland, and the Western Balkans. The company conducts operations directly and through specialized subsidiaries and affiliates, including Luka Koper INPO d.o.o., Adria Terminali d.o.o., Logis nova d.o.o., TOC d.o.o., and the rail-freight undertaking Adria Transport d.o.o.
