Business
Lloyds Banking Group plc is a leading UK-based financial services group formed through the acquisition of HBOS by Lloyds TSB in 2009. It offers a comprehensive range of banking and financial products and services primarily focused on retail and commercial customers. The Group's core products and services include retail banking products such as current accounts, savings accounts, mortgages, credit cards, unsecured loans, motor finance and leasing solutions; commercial banking services including lending, transactional banking, working capital management, debt financing, and risk management; as well as insurance, pensions, and investment products including life insurance, general insurance (home and car), pensions planning, and investment management. Lloyds also provides trade finance services such as bonds, guarantees, documentary credits, and collections to support international trade. The Group operates under a portfolio of well-known brands including Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland. Lloyds Banking Group serves over 26 million customers across the UK, with additional operations in Europe and the US, and maintains its headquarters at 33 Old Broad Street, London, with registered offices in Edinburgh. It operates the largest branch and digital banking network in the UK. The Group's business is organized into three core divisions: Retail, Commercial Banking, and Insurance, Pensions and Investments, all aimed at enhancing customer financial resilience and delivering digital-first solutions. Recent major developments include the launch of Lloyds Premier, a new premium banking product for affluent customers launched in 2025; a £99 million contract secured to provide banking services for HM Revenue & Customs, replacing Barclays; extension of its fraud prevention funding to a total of £15 million; completion of a £116 million refurbishment of its Halifax office; and pioneering the first UK-India digital Letter of Credit transaction using blockchain technology. Additionally, in 2024, the Group appointed Rohit Dhawan as Director of AI to lead strategic investments in artificial intelligence as part of its digital transformation strategy. These initiatives align with Lloyds' purpose of Helping Britain Prosper through sustainable and inclusive financial services. The Group traces its heritage back to Lloyds Bank, founded in 1765, and the Bank of Scotland, dating back to 1695. Lloyds Banking Group is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. Its extensive product and operational footprint make it one of the UK's largest and most significant financial institutions, serving retail, commercial, corporate, and institutional markets across multiple sectors.
