Business
Lupin Limited is a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Mumbai, India, founded in 1968. It specializes in the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of branded and generic formulations, biotechnology products, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and advanced drug delivery systems. Lupin offers a broad portfolio of pharmaceutical products that treat a wide range of therapeutic areas including tuberculosis, diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, infections, pain management, analgesics, gastrointestinal care, respiratory, dermatology, and multivitamins. Its product brands include diabetes care medicines such as Gibtulio, Ajaduo, Gibtulio Met, ONDERO, and ONDERO MET, as well as a Huminsulin range including Insulin Human. Lupin operates in over 100 countries, with significant market presence in India, the United States, South Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. The company has production facilities in India, the US, Mexico, and Brazil and employs over 19,000 people globally. In the last two years, Lupin has undergone significant strategic transformations including the formal carving out of its trade generics business into a wholly owned subsidiary, Lupin Life Sciences, in July 2024 to enhance operational focus and agility. Lupin Manufacturing Solutions (LMS) has conceptualized a multi-year growth strategy to position itself as a differentiated CDMO partner offering end-to-end solutions for global pharma innovators. The company has expanded its portfolio to include approximately 350 products under Lupin Life Sciences, emphasizing high-quality, accessible medicines across multiple therapeutic categories. In 2024, Lupin completed strategic acquisitions of brands from Sanofi in Europe and Canada and several brands of the Medical Nutritional Institute, bolstering its respiratory business and geographic footprint. Lupin has also received U.S. FDA approval for its biosimilar Armlupeg™ (Pegfilgrastim-unne), further advancing its biopharma capabilities. The company continues to invest in expanding manufacturing infrastructure with plans for new facilities announced in 2025 aimed at enhancing capacity and global supply chain security. Lupin’s integrated approach spans from active pharmaceutical ingredient production through branded and generic formulations, with a focus on innovation, regulatory compliance, and global market diversification. The company targets diverse customer segments including healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies, and end consumers in both developed and emerging markets. Its ongoing strategic shifts, acquisitions, and regulatory achievements underscore Lupin’s commitment to growth and leadership in the global pharmaceutical industry.
