Business
Lynas Rare Earths Limited engages in the exploration, development, mining, extraction, and processing of rare earth minerals primarily in Australia and Malaysia. The company operates the Mount Weld Concentration Plant in Western Australia, one of the world’s richest rare earth deposits, and the largest rare earths processing facility outside China in Gebeng, Malaysia. Its core products include light and heavy rare earth oxides such as neodymium, praseodymium, lanthanum, cerium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, and other rare earth elements used in advanced manufacturing sectors. Lynas serves high-technology and low-carbon industries globally, supplying materials for electronics, electric vehicles, wind turbines, and permanent magnets. In recent years, Lynas has focused on expanding its processing footprint with the commissioning of a new rare earths processing facility in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, to reduce reliance on foreign processing and enhance supply chain resilience. The company also entered a strategic partnership with South Korean permanent magnet manufacturer JS Link to develop a permanent magnet value chain in Malaysia, supporting downstream integration in key technology markets. Lynas completed a A$750 million capital raising in 2025 to fund scale-up of operations, plant upgrades, and R&D initiatives focused on improving processing efficiency, sustainability, and product purity. Founded in the 1990s and headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, Lynas is recognized as the world’s largest producer of separated rare earth materials outside China and a critical supplier for green and digital technologies.
