Macquarie Group Limited is a diversified global financial services organization headquartered in Sydney, Australia, and founded in 1969 as Hill Samuel Australia Limited, a subsidiary of the UK's Hill Samuel & Co. The company operates through four principal groups—Macquarie Asset Management, which manages over $735 billion in assets across infrastructure, green investments, agriculture, real estate, private credit, equities, fixed income and multi-asset solutions; Banking and Financial Services, providing personal banking products including home loans, car loans, transaction and savings accounts, credit cards, wealth management and business banking to approximately 2 million Australian clients; Commodities and Global Markets, offering capital and financing, risk management, market access, physical execution and logistics solutions across commodities, financial markets and asset finance; and Macquarie Capital, delivering advisory, capital raising, investment and development services in infrastructure, energy and other sectors. Supported by central service groups for risk management, financial operations, legal governance and corporate operations, Macquarie employs over 20,000 people across 34 markets worldwide, serving retail clients, businesses, governments and institutional investors with a focus on innovation, sustainability and sectors including renewables, resources and technology. Recent developments include the April 2025 agreement to sell its US and European public asset management businesses—encompassing $285 billion in equities, fixed income and multi-asset strategies—to Nomura for A$2.8 billion, subject to regulatory approval by year-end; the November 2025 completion of acquiring stakes in Birmingham and Bristol Airports from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan alongside LGPS Central; the October 2025 agreement to acquire an additional stake in London City Airport; the September 2024 opening of its new global headquarters at 1 Elizabeth Street, Sydney; and the 2024 acquisition of Galehead Development to bolster renewable energy capabilities through integration with Treaty Oak Clean Energy.
