Business
Meta Platforms, Inc. operates as a global technology company that develops consumer social, messaging, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality products and services. The company’s Family of Apps segment comprises Facebook, a social networking and community platform; Instagram, a photo- and video-sharing platform featuring Reels and creator tools; Messenger, a cross-platform messaging service; WhatsApp, a private messaging and business communications platform; Threads, a text-based conversation application; and Meta AI, an artificial intelligence assistant integrated across its services. Meta generates the substantial majority of its revenue by selling advertising placements and related business tools to marketers, including automated ad-delivery, measurement, audience-targeting, commerce and customer-engagement products, as well as business messaging capabilities across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Its products serve consumers, creators, developers and businesses globally through mobile devices, personal computers, virtual reality headsets and AI-enabled glasses. The company also operates Reality Labs, which develops and sells virtual- and augmented-reality consumer hardware, software and content, including Meta Quest virtual reality headsets; the Meta Horizon ecosystem and Horizon Store; Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta AI glasses; Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses with an integrated in-lens display; and the Meta Neural Band, a wrist-worn electromyography interface for hands-free wearable-device control. Meta continues to invest in artificial intelligence infrastructure, recommendation and generative-AI technologies, custom silicon, neural interfaces and immersive computing technologies. Recent strategic developments include the acquisition of AI-wearables company Limitless in 2025; the introduction of Meta Ray-Ban Display and Meta Neural Band in 2025; the 2026 rollout of Meta Business Agent, an AI agent for businesses to answer customer inquiries, recommend products and support appointment booking across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram; expanded multi-year custom AI-chip and networking collaboration with Broadcom; and an expanded agreement with CoreWeave for AI cloud-computing capacity through 2032. Meta reports operations through the Family of Apps and Reality Labs segments and has worldwide operations, with customers and users across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and other international markets. Founded in 2004, Meta Platforms, Inc. is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.
