Business
Mackinac Financial Corporation was a bank holding company focused on delivering comprehensive commercial banking services through its subsidiary, mBank. Headquartered in Manistique, Michigan, the corporation, through its banking arm, engaged in the general commercial banking business. It historically offered a broad spectrum of loan and deposit products, including customary retail and commercial banking solutions like checking and savings accounts, various time deposits, interest-bearing transaction accounts, and safe deposit services. The lending portfolio encompassed real estate mortgage lending, commercial credit, governmental lease financing, and both direct and indirect consumer financing. Operational funding for the bank was also provided by brokered deposits, borrowings from the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) system, proceeds from the sale of loans and mortgage-backed securities, and earnings from its operations. At the time of its acquisition, mBank maintained a network of 28 branch locations spanning Michigan's Upper and Northern Lower Peninsulas, along with a presence in Northern Wisconsin. In September 2021, Mackinac Financial Corporation, including mBank, was acquired by Nicolet Bankshares, Inc., and its operations subsequently integrated under the Nicolet National Bank brand.
