Business
PJSC Krasnogorsky Zavod named after S.A. Zverev (MOEX: KZIZ), commonly known as KMZ, is a Russian optical and optoelectronic engineering enterprise that develops, manufactures, and services high-precision optical, electro-optical, and laser systems for defense, medical, scientific, and consumer applications. Operating as a core subsidiary of the Shvabe Holding within the state-owned Rostec Corporation, the company is headquartered in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia, where it was founded in 1942. The enterprise operates across four principal business segments: military and defense optoelectronics, medical and healthcare diagnostic technology, consumer and professional photography, and space-based remote sensing instrumentation. The company manufactures and supplies a comprehensive portfolio of specialized hardware, comprising: military optoelectronic systems, including armored vehicle fire-control systems, daylight and thermal sighting complexes for main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, airborne electro-optical targeting stations for combat aircraft and helicopters, anti-tank missile guidance systems, and specialized aerosol and radiological monitoring devices; medical diagnostic and surgical equipment, including binocular and digital video colposcopes under the KNp series, ophthalmoscopes, slit lamps, dental operational microscopes, and specialized high-aperture lenses for digital fluorography and radiography systems; photographic products marketed under the Zenit brand, encompassing high-speed manual and electronic prime lenses, wide-angle and portrait optics under the Zenitar and Helios product lines, and photographic adapters compatible with modern digital camera mounts; and scientific and aerospace instrumentation, including satellite-borne high-resolution optical observation payloads for Earth remote sensing, ground-based trajectory measurement stations, laser rangefinders, and industrial spectroanalytical devices. KMZ serves state defense and security entities, municipal and private healthcare institutions, scientific research organizations, aerospace agencies, and professional optical consumers across the Russian Federation and selected international markets. The enterprise operates an integrated manufacturing complex in Krasnogorsk equipped with optical glass grinding and polishing shops, cleanroom assembly lines, mechanical machining units, and environmental testing laboratories. In recent strategic and operational developments, the enterprise has substantially expanded production capacity for defense-grade electro-optical targeting and sighting suites to meet increased procurement demands while advancing import-substitution programs for optical coatings, microelectronic components, and precision tooling. Within its civilian operations, the company has updated its medical technology segment with enhanced digital colposcopy systems and commenced commercial deliveries of ultra-sensitive Zenit-S lenses for domestic medical imaging apparatus. Additionally, the plant has introduced updated lines of multi-mount Zenitar prime photography lenses and continues capital modernization projects across its CNC machining and optical fabrication facilities to optimize production cycles and mitigate supply chain constraints.
