Business
Public Joint Stock Company Sberbank (Sberbank of Russia) (SBER.ME) operates as Russia's largest majority state-owned banking and financial services provider; it offers a comprehensive range of core banking products including retail and corporate deposits, personal loans, mortgages, car loans, business loans, credit cards, payment services, and online/mobile banking; investment products such as mutual funds, stocks, bonds, and insurance policies; corporate finance services encompassing merger and acquisition advisory, debt and equity capital markets, structured finance, and project finance; and an expanding digital ecosystem featuring e-commerce via SberMegaMarket, food delivery through SberMarket, cloud services with SberCloud, telemedicine, media services including online cinema Okko and music SberSound, taxi operations via Citymobil, pharmacies under Sber Eapteka, and mapping with 2GIS. Sberbank serves over 137 million retail clients and 1.1 million corporate clients primarily in Russia across 86 branches and 79 regions, with limited international presence in countries including China, India, Belarus, and Malaysia following the divestment or closure of most European and other subsidiaries between 2022 and 2023 due to sanctions. Founded in 1841 as the imperial savings bank and reorganized as a joint-stock company in 1991, Sberbank maintains its headquarters at 19 Vavilova Street, Moscow, Russia, under the leadership of CEO Herman Gref and with the Russian government holding a majority stake via the National Wealth Fund. Recent developments include the launch of structured bonds tied to Bitcoin performance and USD/RUB exchange rates in June 2025, custody services for Russian cryptocurrency assets in July 2025, a planned AI collaboration with Chinese researchers announced in February 2025, record dividend payments of 787 billion rubles for 2024, and expectations for 6% net profit growth in 2025 alongside enhanced cybersecurity investments and ecosystem expansions such as loyalty program integrations in its banking app.
