Business
Mitsubishi Shokuhin Co., Ltd. Mitsubishi Shokuhin Co., Ltd. engages in the wholesale distribution of food products in Japan, offering processed foods including canned goods, dried items, seasonings, and noodles; frozen and chilled foods such as seafood, meat, vegetables, and dairy; alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; confectioneries; and related logistics and distribution services. The company operates a nationwide network with over 20 distribution centers supporting room temperature, chilled, and frozen logistics, serving diverse customers including supermarkets, co-ops, convenience stores, drug stores, and restaurants, while maintaining approximately 6,500 suppliers and 3,000 buyers. Founded on March 13, 1925, and headquartered at 1-1-1 Koishikawa, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan, Mitsubishi Shokuhin Co., Ltd. reports net sales exceeding 2 trillion yen and employs around 5,000 people as a core subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation. In 2025, Mitsubishi Corporation commences a tender offer valued at approximately 137.6 billion yen to acquire remaining shares and fully privatize the company, aiming to unify management, enhance food distribution capabilities, and drive inorganic growth through expanded logistics, overseas operations, and digital initiatives. This transaction, supported by Mitsubishi Shokuhin's board, positions the company for strengthened wholesale business and value enhancement amid challenges like labor shortages and rising costs in Japan's food sector.
