Business
Golden Pharos Berhad is a Malaysia-based investment holding company and government-linked corporation that operates primarily in integrated timber harvesting, wood-based manufacturing, forest management, and architectural glass processing. Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, the company operates under the ownership umbrella of the Terengganu state government through Terengganu Incorporated Sdn Bhd and Lembaga Tabung Amanah Warisan Negeri Terengganu. The company structures its core operations across three primary business divisions: Timber and Forest Management, Glass Manufacturing, and Investment Holding and Services. Through its Timber and Forest Management segment, Golden Pharos manages sustainable forest concessions across Peninsular Malaysia, including the Dungun Timber Complex and Cherul Forest Concession. The division offers sustainable forest harvesting and logging; forest nursery management, silviculture, and reforestation services; sawn timber production across indigenous hardwood species including Meranti, Chengal, Balau, and Keruing; commercial wood veneer; standard and specialized plywood; timber mouldings; solid wood doors and door frames; wooden flooring and outdoor decking; structural wood components; and fabricated timber truck bodies. These activities are carried out through operating subsidiaries including Kumpulan Pengurusan Kayu-Kayan Trengganu Sdn Bhd, Permint Plywood Sdn Bhd, Pesama Timber Corporation Sdn Bhd, and Pesaka Trengganu Berhad. Through its Glass Manufacturing division, operated via subsidiary Golden Pharos Glass Sdn Bhd, the company produces and distributes specialized architectural and safety glass solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial construction sectors. Its product portfolio includes tempered safety glass; laminated safety glass; double glazing insulated glass units; heat-strengthened glass; ceramic-fritted and painted decorative glass; frosted glass; and curved architectural glass panels. Golden Pharos serves building contractors, furniture manufacturers, property developers, timber distributors, and architectural firms across Malaysia as well as export markets in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and the Middle East. In recent strategic and operational developments, Golden Pharos has expanded its focus on sustainability, renewable energy integration, and downstream value optimization. The group restructured and rebranded its plantation subsidiary GP Forest Plantation Sdn Bhd into GP Agroforestry Sdn Bhd to drive commercial agroforestry and sustainable land stewardship. Golden Pharos has also initiated the exploration of forest-based carbon credit initiatives across its forest concessions and integrated rooftop solar power systems at its operating facilities. Additionally, the company has entered into strategic collaboration agreements to streamline timber supply chains, enhance wood-processing yields, and strengthen its environmental performance, resulting in an upgraded rating on the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index.
