- Ho Hup Construction Company Berhad is a Malaysia-based investment holding company that operates primarily in construction, civil engineering, property development, and building materials. Founded in 1960 and headquartered in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the company provides comprehensive contracting and infrastructure services across Malaysia and selected international markets.
The company organizes its business operations across four primary divisions: Construction and Civil Engineering, Property Development, Building Materials, and Other Services. The Construction and Civil Engineering segment offers foundation engineering, piling, earthworks, and substructure works; building contracting for commercial high-rises, intelligent office towers, residential buildings, and retail malls; civil engineering and infrastructure delivery, including expressways, bridges, viaducts, light rail transit (LRT) guideways, airport facilities, and marine structures; and engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services for pipeline and water distribution networks. The Property Development segment engages in the acquisition, planning, and development of integrated townships, commercial hubs, retail centers, high-rise residential condominiums, and landed housing developments, notably centered around the Bukit Jalil master development. The Building Materials segment manufactures and distributes ready-mixed concrete; processes and supplies quarry products, aggregates, and crushed stones; and operates concrete batching plants across key development corridors. The Other Services segment provides asset, retail, and commercial property management; trading of construction hardware and materials; heavy machinery and equipment leasing; and internal corporate management services.
Ho Hup serves government ministries, state agencies, commercial property developers, industrial corporations, and individual real estate buyers. Geographically, the company operates nationwide in Malaysia and has executed cross-border civil projects in India, Madagascar, Mauritius, China, South Africa, Thailand, and Indonesia through principal subsidiaries, including Bukit Jalil Development Sdn. Bhd., Tru-Mix Concrete Sdn. Bhd., Ho Hup Industries Sdn. Bhd., Ho Hup Jaya Sdn. Bhd., H2Energy Corporation Sdn. Bhd., and Ho Hup Construction Company (India) Private Limited.
In recent developments, Ho Hup Construction Company Berhad is undergoing an extensive corporate, financial, and debt restructuring process following liquidity constraints and credit facility defaults. In April 2025, Bursa Malaysia classified the company as a Practice Note 17 (PN17) listed issuer due to financial distress resulting from payment defaults on various revolving credit and financing facilities. To manage creditor liabilities, tax obligations, and legal winding-up petitions filed by financial institutions and trade creditors, the company obtained court-sanctioned restraining orders to facilitate negotiations on a formal scheme of arrangement and regularization plan. In addition, the group has executed governance adjustments, reconstituting its board of directors and committee structures, including the Audit, Risk Management, and Nomination and Remuneration Committees, as it focuses on restoring operational viability and regularizing its public listing status.
