Business
Deccan Cements Limited is an Indian cement manufacturing company established in 1979 and headquartered in Telangana. The company produces a varied product mix including Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC); Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC); Sulphate Resistant Cement (SRC); and Slag Cement. It operates a 1.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated cement plant based on rotary kiln technology at Bhavanipuram, Telangana, with ongoing capacity expansion plans targeting 4 MTPA by fiscal year end 2026. The company also generates power from its captive thermal power plant along with non-conventional energy sources including hydel and wind power projects, supplying approximately 65% of its total power requirement internally. Deccan Cements sells its products predominantly through a network of dealers across southern India. In recent strategic developments, Deccan Cements is undergoing a significant expansion of its Mahankaligudem plant in Telangana, including installation of a third production line and an increase in captive power capacity, aimed at enhancing production efficiency and meeting growing demand. Furthermore, the company has attracted acquisition interest from major regional players such as JK Lakshmi Cement and Chettinad Cement, which are competing to acquire Deccan in a deal valued around $360 million. This acquisition interest reflects Deccan's strategic position in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana markets amid robust infrastructure growth and demand for cement. Additionally, Deccan has appointed new management auditors, reflecting internal governance enhancements. Financially, Deccan has reported improving revenues and profits through recent quarters despite past volatility, highlighting operational resilience and effective capacity ramp-up. Deccan Cements primarily serves infrastructure, construction, and real estate sectors, with its product offering focused on construction-grade cements suitable for diverse applications. Its business operations and downstream activities focus on South Indian regions, with strategic growth facilitated by expanding production capacity and planned clinker capacity increases to complement grinding expansion opportunities. The company continues to integrate modern energy-efficient manufacturing processes and safeguards sustainability through captive power generation and clean energy use, aligning operational efficiency with environmental considerations. Overall, Deccan Cements Limited stands as a regional cement producer with established manufacturing and renewable power capabilities, poised for expanded market presence through production capacity growth and potential ownership consolidation within the Indian cement industry landscape. Key recent changes include the ongoing plant capacity expansion, power generation augmentation, governance improvements, and active acquisition interest signaling its strategic value in the southern Indian cement market.
