Business
Meiko Construction Co., Ltd. is a Japan-based general construction and engineering company primarily engaged in railway maintenance, civil engineering, building construction, and related infrastructure support services. Founded in June 1941 and headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, the company operates as a specialized infrastructure contractor with a prominent business and equity relationship with Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central). The company organizes its business operations into four main segments: Track Construction, Civil Engineering, Architectural Construction, and Other Real Estate and Ancillary Services. In the Track Construction segment, Meiko Construction provides comprehensive railway track installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair services for conventional railway lines and high-speed Shinkansen networks, including the maintenance of approximately 60 percent of the Tokaido Shinkansen line; specialized track renewal, turnout installation, and continuous welded rail engineering; and rapid-response disaster restoration and rail alignment services. In the Civil Engineering segment, the company delivers heavy civil engineering contracting, including the construction of railway roadbeds, elevated bridges, viaducts, tunnels, and underground structures; urban road, highway, and expressway construction; water supply, sewerage, and flood control civil works; and infrastructure works for the Chuo Shinkansen Linear Maglev project. In the Architectural Construction segment, Meiko Construction provides planning, design, and construction services for railway passenger stations and transport facilities; commercial office buildings, distribution warehouses, and manufacturing facilities; multi-family residential apartments, educational facilities, and public sector buildings; and structural renovations and seismic retrofitting utilizing proprietary technologies such as the SMIC seismic reinforcement method. In its Real Estate and Other segment, the company conducts real estate development, sales, leasing, and property management; insurance agency operations; construction materials manufacturing, sales, and leasing; and technical solutions such as the DIMRO optical fiber displacement inspection system for railway infrastructure monitoring. Meiko Construction conducts operations across Japan, maintaining its core operational presence throughout the Tokai and Chubu regions while expanding project execution in the Kanto and Kansai metropolitan areas. The company serves a diverse client base consisting of rail transport operators, highway authorities including NEXCO, national and local government agencies, and corporate real estate developers. Its corporate group includes consolidated subsidiaries such as Daiki Co., Ltd. and Shizuki Construction Co., Ltd. for specialized railway track works, Meiko Shoji Co., Ltd. for real estate and insurance services, and Building Men Co., Ltd. for building maintenance and construction. In recent developments, Meiko Construction is executing its 19th Medium-Term Management Plan (FY2024 to FY2026), titled Challenge, Toward the Future - Four Cs. In May 2026, the company upwardly revised its management targets to achieve annual orders of 100 billion yen and net sales of 105 billion yen for FY2026, establishing subsequent consolidated revenue milestones of 100 billion yen by March 2029 and 120 billion yen by March 2034. To accelerate growth, the company is actively expanding contract acquisition outside its traditional JR Central operational footprint into public works, expressway projects, and new regional territories, while exploring strategic mergers and acquisitions to expand operational resources. In April 2026, the company officially opened the Meiko Construction Comprehensive Technical Training Center in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, a large-scale timber-structured facility featuring a dedicated 700-meter railway track training line and civil and architectural simulation equipment for technical workforce development. Furthermore, Meiko Construction established academic partnership and naming rights agreements with the Nagoya Institute of Technology for the Meiko Construction ROOM and Meijo University for the MEIKO LOUNGE. On the capital allocation front, the company implemented enhanced shareholder return policies based on progressive dividend distributions, targeting a 30 percent dividend payout ratio by FY2027 and 50 percent by FY2030, alongside governance initiatives to achieve a return on equity of at least 8 percent and a price-to-book ratio above 1.0.
