Business
Guinness Nigeria PLC is a Nigeria-based beverage manufacturing and marketing company engaged in the brewing, packaging, distribution, and sale of alcoholic beverages, ready-to-drink formulations, and non-alcoholic malt beverages. Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, the company operates major brewing facilities in Ikeja, Lagos State, and Benin City, Edo State, serving distributors, wholesalers, hospitality venues, and retail consumers across Nigeria and export destinations in West Africa. The company's diversified product portfolio encompasses: stouts and premium lagers, including Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Guinness Smooth, Harp Premium Lager, and Satzenbrau; non-alcoholic malt beverages, including Malta Guinness, Malta Guinness Herbs Lite, and Dubic Malt; ready-to-drink flavored beverages, including Smirnoff Ice, Smirnoff Ice Double Black, and Snapp; and spirits, bitters, and herbal-infused alcoholic beverages, including Orijin Bitters, Orijin Ready-to-Drink, Orijin Tigernut and Ginger, Gordon's Moringa, and Smirnoff Vodka. In recent corporate developments, Diageo reached an agreement in 2024 to sell its 58.02 percent majority stake in Guinness Nigeria PLC to the multinational conglomerate Tolaram Group. Under the terms of the transaction, Guinness Nigeria retains its public listing on the Nigerian Exchange and operates under long-term brand license and royalty agreements to manufacture, distribute, and market the Guinness brand and designated Diageo spirits locally, while optimizing its operational model to enhance domestic raw material sourcing and mitigate foreign currency exposure.
