- Nidaros Sparebank is a Norwegian independent savings bank providing retail, commercial, and wealth management financial services primarily to individual clients, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), agricultural businesses, and local organizations across the Trøndelag region in central Norway. Founded in 1857 as Klæbo Prestegjæld Sparebank (later Klæbu Sparebank) and headquartered in Klæbu, Norway, with additional operational offices in Trondheim, the bank operates as an independent regional financial institution whose equity certificates are publicly listed on Euronext Oslo Børs under the ticker symbol NISB.
The bank offers a comprehensive suite of financial products and advisory services structured across personal and corporate banking divisions. Its core retail banking portfolio includes deposit and liquidity management products comprising checking accounts, high-yield savings accounts, youth savings programs, and fixed-term deposits; lending solutions comprising residential mortgages, green home loans, home equity credit lines, vehicle loans, personal consumer financing, and credit cards; wealth management and investment services comprising domestic and international mutual funds, individual pension savings (IPS) accounts, and securities brokerage provided in partnership with Norne Securities; and retail insurance coverage comprising life, disability, critical illness, health, home, property, motor, and travel insurance distributed in partnership with Frende Forsikring. Its commercial banking operations encompass business operating credit facilities, commercial real estate loans, construction financing, and liquidity management solutions; commercial leasing, equipment financing, and factoring solutions provided through Brage Finans; mandatory and supplementary occupational pension schemes; and commercial property, liability, and agricultural insurance products. In addition, the bank delivers digital banking capabilities including internet banking, mobile banking applications, electronic invoicing, automated payment processing, and Vipps payment integration.
In recent strategic developments, Nidaros Sparebank entered into a formal letter of intent in September 2026 to merge with Stadsbygd Sparebank, aiming to create a larger, highly competitive regional savings bank across the Trøndelag market. In 2025, the bank expanded its operational footprint and balance sheet by acquiring the customer, deposit, and loan portfolios of Personellservice Trøndelag (PT), integrating approximately NOK 1.6 billion in deposits and NOK 200 million in loan assets. These initiatives build upon the bank's strategic repositioning from the Eika Alliance to the independent LOKALBANK alliance, through which it collaborates with peer savings banks on joint technological infrastructure, core banking modernization powered by Tietoevry, and mortgage refinancing through covered bond issuer Verd Boligkreditt AS.
