Business
Novus Holdings Limited, a JSE-listed company founded in 1905 and headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa, operates as one of Southern Africa's largest printing, publishing and manufacturing groups, primarily serving customers across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa through advanced print production, packaging solutions and educational resources. The Print segment produces a wide range of commercial printing products including books and directories (hard and soft cover, diaries, brochures, annual reports), magazines (ABC-listed, trade, club and free-to-market), newspapers, retail inserts and catalogues for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, security materials, educational materials and flyers using state-of-the-art technologies such as digital printing, high-speed saddle stitching, thread sewing, PUR binding, spot colors, UV varnishing, foiling, debossing and embossing; the Education segment, incorporating the newly acquired subsidiary Maskew Miller Learning Proprietary Limited, develops and provides innovative educational content and resources for schools, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, higher education, government and private colleges including bespoke school administration systems, local content development and end-to-end logistics; the Packaging segment manufactures flexible packaging products, luxury foiled, embossed or die-cut labels, specialised labels with security holograms or back printing, and sustainable paper packaging for beverage, petrochemical and broader FMCG markets; the Other segment supplies jumbo tissue wadding for household and consumer products such as toilet paper, facial tissue, kitchen towels and serviettes. Recent strategic developments include the 2025 acquisition of Maskew Miller Learning to bolster educational offerings, an ongoing proposed merger with Mustek Limited involving distribution of ICT equipment, security solutions, point-of-sale systems, alternative power, training services, cybersecurity and property rental which received Competition Commission review and Takeover Regulation Panel compliance announcements in August 2025, alongside continued pursuit of acquisitions and organic growth in manufacturing as part of expansion into innovative product lines while maintaining print as the core business.
