Business
Otonomy, Inc. (OTIC) was a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of innovative therapeutics targeting diseases and disorders of the ear, including hearing loss, tinnitus, Meniere's disease, and neurotologic conditions. The company offered OTIPRIO (ciprofloxacin otic suspension) for pediatric use during tympanostomy tube placement surgery; OTO-104 and OTO-313, sustained-exposure formulations of steroids and gacyclidine, respectively, for Meniere's disease and tinnitus treatment in Phase II clinical trials; OTO-413, a brain-derived neurotrophic factor formulation for cochlear synaptopathy and speech-in-noise hearing difficulties; OTO-510, an otoprotectant to prevent cisplatin-induced ototoxicity; OTO-825, a gene therapy for congenital hearing loss developed in collaboration with Applied Genetic Technologies Corporation; and OTO-6XX for hair cell repair and regeneration in severe hearing loss. Otonomy leveraged proprietary drug delivery technology enabling sustained local administration to the inner and middle ear, protected by broad patent estates and license agreements with the University of California and DURECT Corporation. All operations focused on the United States market. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in San Diego, California, the company served healthcare professionals, patients, and researchers through clinical support, patient education programs, clinical trial participation opportunities, and collaborative research initiatives. In March 2023, Otonomy ceased operations by filing a certificate of dissolution with the State of Delaware, approved a liquidating distribution of $0.11 per share to stockholders of record as of March 27, 2023, closed stock transfer books, and instructed discontinuation of common stock transfers, with potential for an additional $0.02 per share if reserves permitted. No significant partnerships, acquisitions, funding rounds, or product launches occurred in the last 1-2 years prior to dissolution.
