- PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (PGE) operates as Poland's largest integrated energy company, engaging in the generation, transmission, distribution, trading and supply of electricity and heat primarily within Poland. The company produces power through conventional sources including lignite mining, hard coal-fired plants such as the Bełchatów Power Station, and cogeneration units; renewable sources encompassing onshore and offshore wind farms, photovoltaic installations and pumped-storage hydroelectric facilities; alongside district heating, energy storage solutions and ancillary services. It manages distribution networks serving over 5 million customers comprising households, businesses and institutions; trades electricity, gas and related products on wholesale markets; and offers railway energy services, circular economy operations handling combustion by-products, as well as supporting services in information technology, human resources and transport. Established in 1990 as Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. and headquartered in Warsaw with key operations in Lublin, PGE maintains two major lignite mines, more than 40 power stations and eight distribution system operators across Poland. In recent developments, PGE secured a PLN 2.25 billion loan from the European Investment Bank in 2025 to fund nearly 730 MW of photovoltaic capacity and modernization of a 540 MW pumped-storage plant; adopted a new Strategy for 2035 in June 2025 projecting PLN 235 billion in capital expenditures focused on low-carbon transition; acquired full ownership of PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa in October 2025 to advance the Pątnów nuclear power project; signed an agreement in January 2025 to gain control of two energy companies including the Adamów Power Plant from Mytilineos SA; completed the purchase and rebranding of PKP Energetyka to PGE Energetyka Kolejowa in 2023; and announced plans in 2024 for Europe's largest energy storage facility in Żarnowiec with 263 MW capacity and at least 900 MWh to support wind farm balancing.
