PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust is a specialty finance real estate investment trust that invests primarily in residential mortgage loans and mortgage-related assets, including mortgage servicing rights, agency and non-agency mortgage-backed securities, collateralized mortgage obligations, credit risk transfer arrangements, and other mortgage-related financial instruments; through its correspondent production platform, it purchases, pools, and resells newly originated residential mortgage loans, including conventional conforming, jumbo, non-QM, and other credit-sensitive loans, and also invests in subordinate bonds and securitization-related assets. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Westlake Village, California, the company operates in the U.S. residential mortgage market and is externally managed by an affiliate of PennyMac Financial Services, Inc. In 2026, PMT continued to reshape its portfolio and earnings mix by increasing its focus on private-label securitizations and credit opportunities, closing six securitizations totaling $2.2 billion in unpaid principal balance in the second quarter and shifting equity allocation toward more accretive credit investments; in June, it began stopping acquisitions of Agency-eligible conventional correspondent loans while retaining 100% of non-Agency loan volume.
