Business
Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. was a prominent American company engaged in the gambling and hospitality sectors, known for its portfolio of casinos, hotels, and entertainment venues across the United States. Tracing its origins back to 1938 as the Hollywood Park Turf Club racetrack, the company transformed over decades, shifting from horse racing to a focus on integrated casino resorts and adopting the Pinnacle Entertainment name in 2000. Prior to its acquisition, Pinnacle Entertainment developed and managed a diverse array of gaming and entertainment properties, including facilities for slots, table games, dining, retail, and lodging, catering to a broad market of leisure and gaming enthusiasts. The company also had interests in racetracks and operated the Heartland Poker Tour. A significant strategic shift occurred in 2016 when Pinnacle Entertainment completed a spin-off, separating its real estate assets into Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. (GLPI), while continuing to operate its casinos as a tenant. This restructuring streamlined its operational focus. The company's journey as an independent entity concluded in October 2018 when Penn National Gaming acquired Pinnacle Entertainment in a transaction valued at approximately $2.8 billion. As a condition of this merger, regulatory requirements led to the divestiture of several Pinnacle properties to Boyd Gaming Corporation, further reshaping the regional gaming landscape. Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. is no longer an active, standalone company, operating instead as a subsidiary of PENN Entertainment, Inc.
